Information
A single work and residence permit process applies to foreign workers sent on assignment to or locally hired in Malta. Evidence of labour market testing is required for all except highly paid and senior roles.
the Key Employee Initiative (KEI) is an expedited process for highly specialised non-EU nationals working in highly technical or managerial posts in Malta. The combined work and residence permit is issued within five days of submission of the application.
Workers posted to Malta for under six months may qualify for an Employment Licence and a separate residence card.
Workers posted from within the EEA require a residence permit for stays over 90 days. The Department of Industrial and Employment Relations must be notified of the assignment.
The EU Blue Card for highly skilled employees and the EU Intra-Company Transfer Permit are also available.
