Information

Residence permits re available for locally hired non-EEA national workers as well as those employed outside Norway and seconded to Norway to fulfil a contract for services, or to work at the Norwegian branch of the employing company for a specified time. Foreign workers must have relevant, specialist expertise directly relevant to the job in Norway.

Non-EEA nationals employed in an EEA country and transferred for a limited period to Norway do not require work permits. A residence card must be obtained for assignments longer than three months.

Some work-related activities may be permitted without a work permit for non-EU/EEA nationals transferred from outside the EEA to Norway for a period of up to 90 days. This applies to transfers from an international company for training at the Norwegian branch of the company and to technical experts for installation, disassembly, inspection, repair or maintenance of machinery or technical equipment.

Nordic citizens do not require work permits, registration certificates or residence permits to live or work in Norway. They must apply for personal ID numbers at the Population Register.
