A standard work permit is available, but the procedure is complex and slow, subject to quota, requires proof of basic Russian language skills and is only valid for up to one year.
The Highly Qualified Specialist work permit requires a salary of at least 167,000 roubles per month and quarterly notifications on salary payment to the migration authorities but is exempt from the company work permit, Russian language and quota requirements and is valid for up to three years. Processing is expedited.
The work permit and accreditation card process applies to visa-required nationals transferring to a representative office in Russia.
The technical support visa applies where a foreign national employed outside Russia is sent to fulfil contractual obligations for technical support or installation of equipment (but not software) to a Russian client company. This visa is valid for up to 12 months with stays of up to 90 days in each 180-day period.
